Known as Kevlar, the lightweight para-aramid synthetic fiber is said to be five times stronger than steel. Developed in 1965 by DuPont scientist Stephanie Kwolek, Kevlar was first used commercially in the 1970s as a replacement for steel in racing tires. Since then, engineers at Goodyear and DuPont have collaborated on expanding its mobile applications.

Many techs have been trained to first check a non-communicating module for proper power feeds and grounds. In addition, techs were taught to verify defect-free communication wires to the PCM and to check for short circuits in all the output solenoids the PCM controls. If all four of those requirements are met, they should replace the module.
