CARB adopts Tire Pressure Program - Program part of plan to reduces automotive, greenhouse gas emissions - Motor Age - Automotive training, certification & parts info
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) reports that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has adopted the Tire Pressure Program.
The program is part of the California Global Warming Solutions Act, A.B. 32, which creates a long-term plan for California to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
According to CARB, the Tire Pressure Program, which will go into effect July 1, 2010, will annually: • Eliminate 700,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions • Reduce the state’s fuel consumption by 75 million gallons • Extend the average tire’s useful life by 4,700 miles
CARB states this program will save money, gas and lives. This program will require California’s automotive repairers to check the tire pressure of every vehicle they service. The tire pressure check requirement will apply to smog check stations, engine repair and oil service providers. Collision repair, glass and car wash facilities are excluded from compliance.
