SAKOR Technologies offers educational version of hybrid test system

SAKOR Technologies, Inc., has announced the availability of a specially designed educational version of its HybriDyne Hybrid Vehicle Test System. The bench-top system offers students a real world testing experience, giving them a complete understanding of the operations of all components of an electric or hybrid vehicle.

The basic system costs in the range of $150,000, far less than a full scale system.

The specially configured unit is a smaller version of the commercially available HybriDyne hybrid testing system, which received the SAE 2008 Technical Award for Hybrid System Testing Technology.

It is a single test system designed to be used in an educational environment for testing of a complete hybrid vehicle driveline, or any vehicle sub-system. The unit sits on a laboratory bench or table, and uses a motor with 10 to 20 kilowatts of power, equivalent to a 7 to 15 hp engine. The basic system can also do limited testing and experimentation on high voltage battery technology. An available optional battery simulator facilitates more expanded battery technology testing.

“We are pleased to offer this educational version of our HybriDyne Hybrid Vehicle Test System,” says Randal Beattie, president of Okemos, Michigan based SAKOR Technologies, Inc. “Instructors can set up experiments and road load simulations in a clean laboratory environment to help students test different scenarios in terms of drive mechanisms and efficiency of drive cycles.”

The educational HybriDyne unit is equipped with a fully functional version of DynoLab EM, Sakor’s modular electric motor and generator test system, which uses industry standard, readily available hardware components and is completely user-configurable.

“With DynoLab, students have the opportunity to design all sorts of different road load simulations, and see how the system will react. The system has the capability to conduct all of the testing and simulation that can be done in the commercial version, at significantly lower cost,” Beattie adds.
