Mark T. Kennedy from Westminster, Md., received the Automotive Technology Outstanding Student Scholarship at the 2009 North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT) Conference held recently at the Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, N.C. Each year Mitchell 1 recognizes one U.S. high school senior for outstanding achievement in automotive technology scholastics.

During the awards ceremony, Kennedy was presented with a check for $2,500, along with a recognition certificate courtesy of Mitchell 1.

“Mitchell 1 is proud to have the opportunity to recognize Mark Kennedy for his outstanding achievement and strong dedication to pursuing educational excellence in the automotive technology field,” says Karen Wagner, marketing manager for Mitchell 1.

Kennedy graduated from the Carroll County Career & Technology Center (CCCTC) in Westminster in May. The CCCTC offers a variety of programs to prepare students for college through on-the-job training as early as their junior year of high school. Kennedy completed a research and development program during his last semester of high school and graduated from CCCTC’s automotive service technology program. While at the school, he was an active member of the local SkillsUSA chapter. Kennedy plans to further his educational goals at the Community College of Baltimore County at Catonsville, Md. in the General Motors automotive technology program.

During his time at Winters Mill High School in Westminster, Kennedy was active in football and lacrosse, and received many accolades for academic excellence, including being inducted as a member of the National Honor Society, and receiving straight “A” honor roll and “Student of the Month” recognitions. He also earned Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) certificates in brakes, steering and suspension, electronics and engine performance.
