 Fisker Automotive has won a 2009 Spark Design and Architecture Award for its Karma plug-in hybrid electric car. California-based Fisker Automotive developed the Karma on the belief that eco-friendly cars do not have to sacrifice power, style or performance. The four-door Karma features exotic sports car looks, will go 0 to 60 mph in six seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph, but it can still achieve an annual average of 100 mpg. Spark is a community of recognized designers and creative people bound together by the idea that design can make significant, positive changes in the world and help make it better. “Being recognized by the prestigious judges at the Spark Award competition is really something to be proud of,” says Henrik Fisker, Fisker Automotive CEO and design director. “The entire Fisker Automotive team and I are honored.” "Fisker Automotive has brought excitement to the new, much-needed category of green vehicles," explains Peter Kuchnicki, executive director of Spark Awards. “With a design like the Karma, the future of driving indeed looks bright.” A graduate of the Art Center College of Design, Fisker is also responsible for designing some of the most iconic cars of the modern era, including the BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The Z8 and DB9 were featured as James Bond’s vehicles of choice in separate movies. Spark works with major schools and universities, assisting in co-promotion of events, interchange programs and advanced studies.
