Six California high school students were awarded scholarships from Toyo Tires during December’s 16th Annual John R. Wooden Classic.

For the fourth year, Toyo has provided a $500 John Wooden Scholar-Athlete Award to each individual student plus another $500 to their respective high school athletic departments.

The winners were acknowledged during halftime of the University of Southern California at Los Angeles Bruins vs. the Mississippi State University Bulldogs basketball game at Honda Center in Anaheim.

The grantees must have a 3.50 or greater grade point average and participate in a sport at their high school.

This year’s recipients were:

• Taylor Sepulvada of Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta

• Katherine Patterson of Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne

• Keith Coty of La Mirada High School in La Mirada

• Christopher Dougherty of Desert Christian High School in Lancaster

• Yumi Suh of Saugus High School in Saugus

• Kyle Pendergast of Foothill High School in Santa Ana

“Toyo Tires is proud to support these standout high school seniors who excel in academics, sports and extracurricular programs,” says Steve Hutchinson, vice president of marketing. “They are outstanding role models who have bright futures, and we applaud them for their accomplishments.”
