The Florida Electric Auto Association (FLEAA) is hosting the fourth annual Battery Beach Burnout, an electric and hybrid vehicle competition, in Jupiter, Fla. at Florida Atlantic University on Feb. 21 and 22. The free event consists of multiple competitions involving electric vehicles (EV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV), including an auto-cross, scooter-cross, vehicle performance tests, Electrathon and Show-n-Shine events. The Battery Beach Burnout raises awareness of the current state of electric and hybrid vehicles and to educate people about ‘green’ alternative fuel vehicles, according to organizers. The event showcases and promotes alternative energy technologies to power vehicles of the future to solve our transportation, energy and air quality problems. Visitors will be able to ride in several of the cars on display in a ride and drive area as an opportunity to look at all of the electric and hybrid vehicles being offered by the auto industry in one place. Visitors will also be able to participate and vote for their favorite car in the Show ‘n Shine competition. All types of vehicles from solar, fuel cell, electric and plug-in hybrid will be on display. There also will be performance testing and Electrathon competitions. There will also be an autocross in two two-hour sessions, and the event will wind to an end at with a raffle drawing and award ceremony. This event is free for spectators and is open to the public. There will be a registration fee for participants of $20 for automobiles (EV, HEV, PHEV) and $10 for scooters, motorcycles, karts and Electrathons.
