The Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of Minnesota (AASP-MN) will host “New Metals & Repair Technologies,” Sept. 16, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., (just prior to the I-CAR Golf Outing) at Crystal Lake Golf Club, Lakeville, and again in the evening from 6 to 8 p.m., at Dunwoody College of Technology, Minneapolis.

Collision shops must adapt their repair knowledge, procedures and skills to keep pace with the OEMs’ shift to using increasingly higher-strength classes of steel in new vehicles, states the association, who adds that the program will be presented by Dave Gruskos, Reliable Automotive Equipment, and will cover materials in today’s vehicle bodies, repair methods for use on these materials, and how these materials affect the collision repair process.

On Sept. 22, AASP-MN will host a “Chrysler Scan Tool Update,” from 4 to 8 p.m., at Dunwoody College of Technology. The update, presented by Al McAvoy, Chrysler, will cover newly-introduced scan tools that support Chrysler’s CAN bus vehicles, including description, operation and setup of each of the tools, and a demonstration of their use, along with the use of the factory Web sites available for obtaining service and diagnostic information to repair Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep vehicles.

In addition to AASP-MN, this educational offering is supported by the Association’s 2009 Educational Partners: AASP National, AKZO Nobel, Associated Insurance Agents, Bill Smith Foundation, CCC Information Services, Dupont Performance Coatings, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, FinishMaster, Hunter Engineering, IDENTIFIX, John’s Auto Parts, Keystone Automotive, Lowell’s Performance Coatings, Meadowbrook Insurance, Minnesota Parts Advantage, Pams Auto, Parts Plus/Red Rooster Auto Stores, PPG Automotive Finishes, R.O. Writer/ASMATS, RealParts.com, Sata Spray Equipment, Sherwin Williams, Suburban Chevrolet and Waste Management.
